These beads are on 15 - 16 inch strands, temporarily strung, usually on monofilament (fishline).
The holes are relatively small, about 1mm. You won't be putting leather through them.
About 180 beads on a 2mm strand, about 120 on a 3mm strand.
Hematite? Probably hematine. Garnets? Yes, but frequently dyed and adventurously drilled.
