Octopus blood contains the copper-rich protein hemocyanin for transporting oxygen.
Although less efficient under normal conditions than the iron-rich hemoglobin of vertebrates,
in cold conditions with low oxygen pressure, hemocyanin oxygen transportation is more efficient than hemoglobin oxygen transportation.
